Not to say the first two weeks of the 5A Idaho high school football playoffs are just a mere formality but the 2018 playoff seem to be heading towards a semi final pairing of destiny.

Rocky Mountain and Coeur d'Alene  survived the regular season unbeaten and along with Highland and Mountain View, both 8-1, will enjoy a first round bye and home field advantage in the quarter finals next Friday.

That's where the crystal ball shows Madison @ Rocky Mountain, Capital @ Coeur d'Alene,, Eagle @ Highland and Skyview @ Mountain View.

Even if one of those pairings doesn't materialize there seems to be little doubt the top four will advance to the semi finals where Coeur d'Alene would face Rocky Mountain and Highland would play Mountain View.

That's been the lineup all season and there's no reason to expect any changes.

It assures that this years title game will feature an unbeaten against a one loss team. The only bummer in the ointment is it would have been nice to see the Grizzlies line up to face the Vikings for the 5A crown as 11-0 and 10-0 combatants.

Of course that's not how the brackets laid out this year so we can forget a battle of unbeaten s but for Treasure Valley Fans how cool would it be to see Rocky Mountain and Mountain View in the finals, ending the season the same way they began....head to head!
