The Borah Lions are the defending 5A Idaho state high school boys basketball champions but Rocky Mountain is the team to beat right now.

The Grizzlies have jumped to an 11-0 SIC record including a win at Borah back in December. Still the Lions, 8-2 in league and 11-2 overall, can't be counted out if for no other reason than they have Austin Bolt.

Borah's loss last week to Boise was in part because Bolt was absent. He was in Dallas getting ready to play in the Blue-Grey All American Bowl in which he was named the offensive MVP with three touchdowns including the game winner in overtime.

Bolt is currently averaging a double-double in basketball with 18.4 points per game and 11.5 rebounds a contest. Bolt is back in town and ready for the stretch run to district and state tournaments.

Meridian is also a team to be reckoned with at 8-2 in league and 11-2 overall although they never came close in their loss to Rocky Mountain over the weekend.

Eagle is another team that could shake things up because after all they have the SIC's leading scorer in Tanner Hayhurst averaging 21.6 points per game. We will get to see Hayhurst in the McDonald's game of the week Thursday as the Mustangs host Timberline at 7:30 pm on 105.5 The Fan. Timberline is coming off a 2-0 weekend giving them a 5-6 SIC record.

Still, Rocky Mountain has been rolling over all their opponents to the extent the only thing that can stop Rocky seems to be....them!

Only three weeks remain in the regular season and it's Borah with the tough road home. The Lions still have to play at Meridian January 31st, a game to be broadcast on 105.5fm The Fan and then February 5th, a Wednesday,  the Lions play the Grizzlies at Rocky oh my!
