Three months, that's home much time we have until the kickoff of the 2019 Boise State football season.

The Broncos open 2019 with Florida State in Jacksonville, Florida on August 31st and It'll be here before you know it! and I guarantee you BSDU coaches are already starting the feel the pressure!

Honestly, does the pressure ever go away? Ask head coach Bryan Harsin and I'm pretty sure the answer is a resounding no. Harsin is a local athlete come home to practice his craft but even the fact he's a Boise native, played at Capital High and then for Boise State doesn't buy him any slack.

Like coaches before him, Harsin is criticized but I'm not sure why. If the end result is winning, that's what he's been able to do.

Since becoming the broncos head coach five years ago, Harsin has led the broncos to more wins than any other Mountain West team.

The top five winners over the last 5-years are: Boise State 52, San Diego State 46, Air Force 43, Utah State 36 and Colorado State 34.

What Harsin hasn't done is what Chris Peterson did in beating Oklahoma. Those are the marque victories people remember that somehow put an armor of "critical" protection around a coach.

Coach Pete could walk on water following the win over the Sooners. Coach Harsin hasn't logged that type of perceived victory.

That is why this years season opener against Florida State could be the milestone victory Harsin needs to keep critics at bay.

Unfortunately Harsin will head to Florida without a proven quarterback. After four years Brett Rypien has moved on to the other Broncos of Denver and that leaves BSU in the same predicament Chris Peterson had in his early days.

Peterson simply introduced a kid named Kellen Moore as a freshman starter and the rest was history. Moore posted a 50-3 record and it could have been 53-0 but for some wayward field goals.

Like Petersen, Harsin needs to find a new leader and everyone in camp has little or no experience. Unlike Petersen, Harsins pick to start at quarterback won't get to begin against the likes of Idaho State on the Blue no less....Harsins pick gets Florida State in Florida!

To be honest, there just isn't anything really to talk about in local sports right now, it's a real slow time of the year so I guess talking BSU Football is the best way to beat the current doldrums. Yep, it works every time!
