You have to go back to the 1988-89 season to equal this years 9-1 start to the Boise State men's basketball season. The current 9-1 mark ties the 9-1 of the 1988-89 team which actually began the year 16-1.

Boise States 77-54 win over Sacramento State this past weekend featured another double-double by Chandler Hutchison who scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to notch his 15th career double double.

It was also a big win for BSU head coach Leon Rice who has a 93-20 record at Taco Bell arena, an 82.3% winning margin, the best of any Boise State Basketball coach in the Division I era.

Justinian Jessup continued his incredible shooting from behind the 3-point line in going 5-of-6 and finishing with 18 points. The sophomore is shooting 54.9 percent from three (39-of-71) so far this season.

With Jessup leading the way, Boise State already has seven games with 10 or more 3-pointers (knocked down 13 on Saturday). To put it in perspective, the Broncos had seven such games in all of last season.

More impressive news....The victory extends the BSU’s non-conference home winning streak to 23 games – the longest such streak in the Mountain West and the 12th longest in the nation.

The Broncos defense is also stellar this season holding Sacramento State to just 38.2 percent shooting from the field (21-of-55) – its sixth game this year holding an opponent to below 40 percent shooting. Leon Rice-coached Boise State teams are 50-5 when holding opponents to under 40 percent from the field.

BSU will face an interesting test Wednesday night when they host 6-2 Grand Canyon University. The Antelopes are coached by former NBA standout, Olympian and World Team member Dan Majerle now in his 5th year.

Grand Canyon, a member of the Western Athletic Conferenced, has lost only to St. Johns and San Diego. They took Nevada to the wire in an exhibition game before losing to the Pack 91-82.

Game time Wednesday is 7pm.
