Saturday is state championship[ day from several Treasure Valley high school football teams and the action will start bright and early at 10 a.m. at Albertson's Stadium.

Last year the Highland Rams hosted the 5A State football final and they beat Coeur d' Alene for the championship in warm and fuzzy Hold Arena. The Rams are back in the title game but this time they have to travel to Boise to play no.1 ranked Rocky Mountain at 10 a.m.

The early start was dictated because to play on the Blue the Idaho High School Activities Association had to deal with a busy Boise State weekend which includes a rock concert Saturday night at Taco Bell Arena and a big party at the Stickle Sky Center Saturday evening, plus other events.

So the two best football teams in the state will kickoff their game early Saturday morning and that has to favor the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies who not only don't have to travel but have played their last two games in the open chill of November while the Rams have enjoyed the comfort controlled indoors.

The 5A game will be followed on the blue by Bishop Kelly against Hillcrest of Idaho Falls at 1p.m.

Also at 1 p.m Saturday but at Middleton High School, Homedale will make the short drive to tangle with Sugar-Salem who like Highland and Hillcrest, will make the four hour drive to the Treasure Valley.

Just for the record, Sports Radio 630 The Fan, which has brought you an entire season of 5A prep football will be unable to air the title game because of our commitment to airing the Idaho-Florida football game from Gainsville, Florida...kickoff 10 a.m. Boise time.

When all is said and done Saturday at 4 p.m. or so I predict the following:

5A

Rocky Mountain  28  Highland  24

4A

Hillcrest  24  Bishop Kelly  17

3A

Homedale  31  Sugar-Salem  21
