Matt Hearns was a 24th round MLB draft pick in 2016 by the Atlanta Braves. In 2018 he's with the Boise Hawks and this just might be the year he blossoms. Last night Hearns led the Boise Hawks with three hits as they beat the Hillsboro Hops 3-2. The three hit night is no accident, he's been hitting the ball hard all season. In 106 at bats Hearns has 43 hits and that's a season average of .406. His slugging percentage is .491 and his on base percentage is .438.

Anyway you look at it Hearns is ripping the cover off the ball and has led Boise to an 18-13 record, the second best mark behind Hillsboro (21-10) in the Northwest League. The only thing Hearns hasn't done this year is homer. He has three doubles and three triples by hasn't gone yard yet. The Hawks and Hops play again tonight and Wednesday in Hillsboro. Best scenario is they return home to host Everett on Thursday just one game behind Hillsboro in the South Division. The Hops current lead is 3 games.
