Wednesday night Boise State football fans will have a chance to see the new blue turf up close and personal. An open house will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at which time about 500 pieces of the old turf will be on sale for $39.95 each. Each section is one foot square.

Today the media had a chance to walk on the turf which cost about $600,000 to install and has a life expectancy of 8 years.

The big difference you'll notice is the blue turf extends across the entire stadium floor except for a few feet on the east side where future expansion could bring the seats closer to the field.

You'll also notice the turf not in the playing field looks brighter but is the same color it just doesn't have the rubber pellets spread across it.

The pellets still need time to work there way into the turf and will be spread by machine and watered in over the summer.

Boise State opens the home season September 6th against Marshall. Of course technically Garth brooks will be the first to play on the blue in July but officials say a lot of effort will go into, as the football players like to say, protecting the blue!
