Idaho’s Jeff Cotton Leads FCS Receivers

The Idaho Vandals beat Central Washington 41-31 Saturday night and they couldn't have done it without Jeff Cotton.

Cotton hauled in 16 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns, nearly breaking the 50 year old single game receiving record of 17 catches by Jerry Hendren in 1969.

Through two games this season, Cotton ranks No. 1 in the FCS with 11 catches per game. Cotton’s 114 receiving yards per game rank No. 13 in the country and his 134 all-purpose yards per game are good for 28th in the nation.

Cotton would say after the game it wasn't the way Idaho wanted to win, they were hoping to dominate Central, but as Cotton put it, a win is a win and now it's off to Laramie Saturday to play Wyoming.

Cotton has done well against FBS opponents, in three career games against FBS opponents, Cotton has tallied 13 catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns. He grabbed six balls for 83 yards at Penn State (Aug. 31, 2019).

Cotton is doing all this despite the fact Idaho head coach Paul Petrino hasn't decided yet on a starting quarterback. His son Mason played most of the game against Central Washington completing 23 of 30 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns.

However, Colton Richardson also played at quarterback and after the game when asked if he was ready to name a starter, coach Petrino said, Not yet.
